Most players play the temporary leagues. Standard is the permanent league and has been running since Path of Exile's launch. There are many more items in the economy

I just want to point out that these peak numbers being talked about are concurrent players -- that is very, very different from total active players. For example, CS:GO can peak at just over a million concurrent on Steam, and CS:GO has 20 million players a month. Path of Exile is arguably one of the most complex action RPGs out there. Grinding Gear Games always adds new features and content in every expansion, making it even more complicated. Fortunately, PoE has an active and helpful community. Some even develop useful third-party tools, such as Path of Building or more commonly known as POB.158,140 concurrent active players on Steam So that gives you a ratio of 1.70 to get total players. It seems to have been pretty constant around that mark over the years. Note that those numbers are just concurrent players.
